Land Rover Reveals the ‘World’s Toughest Smartphone’

When it comes to Land Rover, it doesn’t matter whether you’re talking about a vintage SUV, a restored classic, a brand new 6×6 or even a multi-tool—odds are, it’s going to be a good-looking product that’s built to last. The new Land Rover Explore smartphone—the brand is billing it as the “the toughest phone in the world”—is no exception. Inspired by their Discovery model, the Land Rover Explore phone is built by Bullitt Group, the same rugged device manufacturer responsible for creating phones for Caterpillar and Kodak. The Explore is an Android phone (currently running Nougat with a scheduled upgrade to Oreo) with a 5” FHD display protected by Gorilla glass, 4GB RAM, 64GB ROM, IP68 splash/water/dust resistance and an enormous 4,000mAh battery (that’s slightly less than twice the size of the iPhone X battery) that’s outfitted with Land Rover style cues like a car-style speaker grill on the front. But the best part of the Explore has to be the fact it’s designed to work with modular upgrade packs like the Adventure Pack, Battery Pack and Cycling Pack that add better GPS, battery or bicycle connectivity, respectively. The Land Rover Explore will be released April 26.
